Geo Tracker 3: your route, your photos, your file
Geo Tracker started in 2013. The 2025 rewrite brought it back as an app that keeps GPX files on your device. For version 3, I’ve rebuilt the recording side around the things I want on a walk: a route that keeps recording with the phone locked, a quick way to mark a place, and photos that stay with the route.
Record the walk, including the breaks
The recording screen shows time, distance, pace or speed, and climb around a live map. Pause for a break and resume when you start moving again. Optional auto-pause handles that for you. An idle reminder asks whether to stop and save; it does not decide that your walk is over.
There are recording controls on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. The Live Activity on a paired Apple Watch can pause, resume, or stop and save the iPhone recording too. Geo Tracker does the GPS recording on the phone.
A photo belongs on the route
Take a photo waypoint in the app, or use the Geo Tracker camera control from the Lock Screen. You can also add photos after a walk: their capture times place them along the recorded route.
Renaming a track keeps its photos and links together. Share Track with Photos makes a ZIP with the GPX file and the images beside it. Unzip the folder, and the file still points to its photos.
Follow the line back
Retrace Route keeps a copy of the breadcrumb you have recorded and shows your location against it. The start stays marked while recording continues. This is a reference to the route you actually took, with gaps where no route was recorded. It does not invent directions or offer downloaded offline maps.
Keep the file
The library brings your recordings together with GPX files opened from Files, Mail or AirDrop. There are elevation profiles, KML export and an optional Save to Apple Health action for a workout with its route.
Geo Tracker runs on iPhone and iPad. Version 3 adds German, French, Spanish and Japanese alongside English, and a separate layout that puts the recording controls first when you use accessibility text sizes.
